CHEMICAL REACTION

Part-1

Very short questions and answers for S.E.E. students

Chemical reaction

Questions and answers to practice for S.E.E. examination

1) What is word equation?
Answer: The chemical reaction expressed by writing full names of reactants and product is called a word equation.

2) What are products?
Answer: The elements or compounds that are produced during a chemical reaction are called products. Products are written on the right hand side of the arrow.

3) Write any two factors that affect the chemical reaction.
Answer: Any two factors that affect the chemical reaction are:
    (i) Temperature and
    (ii) Pressure

4) What is meant by precipitate?
Answer: A precipitate is an insoluble solid that emerges from a liquid solution during a chemical change.

5) What is acid-base reaction? Give one example.
Answer: The chemical reaction in which an acid reacts with a base to form salt and water is called acid-base reaction. For example:
    Acid + Base → Salt + Water
    HCl + KOH → KCl + H₂O

6) Define promotor.
Answer: The chemical substance which is used to activate a positive catalyst is called promoter. Example: Molybdenum (Mo).

7) What is a balanced chemical equation?
Answer: The chemical equation written by balancing the number of atoms of elements on both sides of arrow in reactants and products is called a balanced chemical equation.

8) What is a catalyst?
Answer: A catalyst is a chemical substance which increases or decreases the rate of chemical reaction by remaining itself chemically changed.

9) What is Neutralization reaction?
Answer: The chemical reaction in which an acid reacts with a base to form neutral substances, i.e. salt and water is called neutralization reaction.

10) Define positive catalyst with an example.
Answer: The catalyst which increases the rate of chemical reaction is called positive catalyst. For example: Manganese dioxide (MnO₂).

Chemical Reaction

11) What is reversible reaction?
Answer: Reversible reaction is the chemical reaction in which the products can recombine to give back the reactants.

12) Write any two methods to increase the rat of chemical reaction.
Answer: The two methods to increase the rate of chemical reaction are:
    (i) By increasing the concentration of the reactants.
(ii) BY using a positive catalyst.

13) What is chemical reaction?
Answer: The exchange, synthesis or dissociation that occurs in the molecules during a chemical change is called chemical reaction.

14) What is endothermic reaction?
Answer: The chemical reaction in which heat is absorbed during the reaction is called exothermic reaction.

15) What is exothermic reaction?
Answer: The chemical reaction in which heat is released during the reaction is called exothermic reaction.
