Heat || Solved Q/A for S.E.E. - Exam || Part-1
HEAT
Part-1
Very short questions and answers for S.E.E. students
1) What is heat?
Answer: Heat is the sum total of kinetic energy (K.E.) of the molecules contained in a body. In other words, heat is a form of energy which flows from a hotter body to colder body when they are in thermal contact.
2) What is internal energy?
Answer: The sum of kinetic energy for all molecules of a body is called its internal energy. When internal energy flows, it is called as heat.
3) What are the factors affecting heat energy?
Answer: The two factors affecting heat energy are given as follows:
a. Number of molecules contained in a body.
b. Average kinetic energy of the molecules.
4) What is source of heat?
Answer: The object from where we get heat is called source of heat. For example: Sun, Candle, petroleum, firewood, coal, etc.
5) What is 1 kilo calorie heat?
Answer: 1 kilo calorie heat is defined as that heat which is required to raise the temperature of 1 kg pure water by 1⁰C or 1 K.
6) We feel cold when we touch ice. Why?
Answer: As we all know that heat transfers from hotter body to colder body, so heat starts to transfer from our body to ice. This makes decrease in temperature of our body. So, we feel cold when we touch ice.
7) Why do we feel hot on a sunny day?
Answer: We feel cold on a sunny day because during sunny day, the temperature of surrounding becomes hotter and the heat starts to flow from surrounding to our body. As we all know that our inner temperature in constant. So, the heat starts to blow from surrounding to our body in sunny day. This happens when the temperature of surrounding rises as compared to our body.
8) What is temperature?
Answer: The average rate of vibration of molecules due to heat is called temperature.
In other words, the average kinetic energy of the molecules contained in a body is called as temperature.
9) Name the device which is used to measure temperature.
Answer: Thermometer is the device which is used to measure temperature.
10) State the 'Zeroth law of thermodynamics'.
Answer: Zeroth law of thermodynamics states, "when a hot body is kept in thermal contact of cold body then the heat flows from hotter body to colder body until they have same temperature."
