Answer: The solid wastes that decay and decompose after some time are called bio-degradable solid wastes. Examples: Dead animals and plants, waste paper, clothes, thrown food stuffs, etc.
4) What are non bio-degradable solid wastes? Write with examples.
Answer: The solid wastes that do not decay and decompose for a long time are called non bio-degradable solid wastes. Examples: Plastics, bottles, glass pieces, metals, etc.

Answer: The collection, transportation, processing and reuse of waste materials is called solid waste management.
6) What are the raw materials used to make bakelite?
Answer: The raw materials which are used to make bakelite are carbolic acid and formaldehyde.
7) What is soap? Give one example.
Answer: A soap is defined as a sodium salt of higher fatty acid which has cleansing properties in water, e.g. sodium stearate (NaCOOC₁₇H₃₅).
8) What is saponification?
Answer: The process of making soap by the hydrolysis of fats and oil with alkalis is called saponification.
9) Name the raw materials used for making soap.
Answer: The raw materials used for making soap are:
(i) Sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
(ii) Animal fat or vegetable oil.
