Q.1) What is source of electricity? Give few examples.
Answer: The object/device which produce electricity are called as source of electricity. The examples of source of electricity are as follows:
(i) Generator
(ii) Dynamo
(iii) Dry cell
(iv) Simple cell
(v) Hydro electricity, etc.
Q.2) What is simple cell?
Answer: The type of cell which contain metal plates and liquid in it to conduct electricity is called as simple cell.
Q.3) What is dry cell?
Answer: The type of cells which contain dry paste instead of liquid and produce electricity is called as dry cell.
Q.4) What is meant by polarization? Which chemical is used to remove this defect?
Answer: The defect produced due to formation of hydrogen layer on the copper plate is called as polarization.
Potassium dichromate (K₂Cr₂O₇) is used to remove this defect.
Q.5) Name any two materials used for making simple cell.
Answer: The two materials used for simple cell are:
(i) Electrode and
(ii) Electrolyte.
Q.6) Write down two defects of simple cell.
Answer: The two defects of simple cell are:
(i) Polarization and
(ii) Local action
Q.7) What is local action?
Answer: The defect produced due to impurities like copper (Cu), Iron(Fe), etc. present in the zinc plate is called as local action.
Q.8) Name the chemical substance which is used to remove polarization in a simple cell.
Answer: The chemical substance which is used to remove polarization in a simple cell is potassium dichromate (K₂Cr₂O₇).
Q.9) Write two metals used to make fuse.
Answer: The two metals used to make fuse are Tin and Lead.
Q.10) What is fuse? What is fuse made of?
Answer: Fuse is a safety device which is made up of alloy of tin and lead and prevents the electrical device from being damage.
